Tl;dr Starting with “how do we do this task now,” not “how should we do this” will save your bacon.

Take heart: your team of 45 employees didn’t get this far without learning a thing or two. Many of the internal processes that need to be formalized already exist within the organization — the founder’s task is to surface this working knowledge, test, and codify. “Lean” is old school now, but an as-is and many swim-lanes will save you in the end.
