What can a card do? Let’s find out.

I’ve been a prolific card and letter writer since I was four years old.

“Thank you for all of your letters,” my Grandmother once wrote to me. I was still in preschool.

I believe the world can always use more #kindness, and sending snail mail is a great way to show the people in your life why they matter and how much you appreciate them. There’s something truly special about sending and receiving a handwritten note.

I recently wrote about the (lost?) art of communication for a feature at GIRLBOSS. There are so many ways to reach out or stay in touch with friends and family in our digital-obsessed world. Yet somehow, it’s common to feel less connected than ever. Digital communication — texts, social posts, and email may make it easy to *talk* or share, but there’s something about a card that just does more.

Cards can do some amazing things. They can rekindle relationships, mend hearts, and bring us closer.

Think of the cards you’ve saved over the years. Do you have a box in your closet or a drawer in your bedside table where you tuck away those little bits of inspiration or gratitude from the senders who gave you those cards?

Maybe they were given to you for big moments, but maybe they were for everyday life moments, too. Maybe they were sent to you by a special someone who is no longer with you, or maybe from a special someone who has become even more special over the years. (Btw, I highly recommend a “feel good” file for all writers and creatives for the days you forget why you started.)

When you want to make an impact that goes above and beyond to show how much you care, send a card. Cards Do More.

Not sure about that? Try it yourself and see what a card can do.

And…if you’re in the LA area, please consider joining me for a fun card-writing party with the women’s gathering community Quilt on Thursday, July 25 in Culver City (on the Westside of Los Angeles) to write and send cards to friends, colleagues, neighbors, and even strangers.

We’ll enjoy sips & snacks, discuss the scientifically-proven health benefits of practicing gratitude, and choose from a curated selection of cards courtesy of Hallmark Cards. A portion of proceeds benefits More Love Letters, a nonprofit that sends letters of support to people all over the world. Hope to see you then! RSVP/more info here: https://wearequilt.com/app/gatherings/935.

Please note: space is limited.
