Hey folks! GNOG turned one year old on PC on July 17th and we’ve got a few belated anniversary announcements.

Free on the Epic Games Store!

GNOG is now available on the Epic Games Store — and to celebrate, it’s free from August 8th to the 15th! We’re super excited to get the game in front of a whole new audience and give folks an opportunity to try it out for free.

Welcome to all our new players — we hope you enjoy it!

Meanwhile of course, GNOG remains available over on GOG, itch.io, Oculus, and Steam, alongside our older releases on PS4 and iOS.

Mouse accessibility support

Over the past year, we’ve been working with SpecialEffect, a UK based charity promoting accessibility in video games by providing support to developers to add features which enable more people to play. Thanks to their help, we’re happy to introduce a new accessibility mode for GNOG. Launching the game in this mode changes the interaction model — you click once to grab an object, then click again to let it go. This is different from the original interaction, where you would click and hold the mouse button to move an object around. It’s a subtle change applied only to a subset of all the objects in the game, but it allows players using mice and assistive point and click devices, such as eye gaze control, to more easily interact with the puzzles we’ve created.

We’ve done our best to ensure that players can launch directly into this mode from their platform of choice once the update is installed. On EGS, GOG, and Steam, you should see a new launch option titled “Play GNOG with mouse accessibility support” which will launch the new mode directly. If you’re running the executable from the command line, apply the argument —-eyegaze and you should be good to go (e.g., GNOG.exe --eyegaze).

Of course, players without these devices can still launch the game as before to play in the original mode — simply run the game without arguments, or hit the default Play/Launch button.

We’d like to give a huge shoutout to all the folks at SpecialEffect for helping us develop this new feature. They’ve been patient & insightful, and have put so much energy into the project — we’re so glad they’ve taken the time to help make this chill game of ours as accessible as possible. You can learn more about the work we’ve done together over on their blog!

B-Sides

During the long and winding course of GNOG’s development, one thing that kept us excited was Marskye’s incredible work on the game’s soundtrack — and it’s earned plenty of well-deserved praise since the game’s release. So much time and attention went into every level’s dynamic soundscape, and yet as the game evolved so much music wound up on the cutting room floor — until now.

Marskye’s been keeping busy with other projects, but he’s still made time to rework and expand on a number of themes he’d put together for GNOG over the years. In just a few days, we’ll be releasing an all-new GNOG soundtrack album filled with new material and extended takes on those head-bobbing jams. Stay tuned for updates when the album drops!

Until Next Time

As previously announced, the GNOG team has moved on to Winding Worlds — a brand new game available soon on Apple Arcade. We’re looking forward to sharing more about that and all the other projects we’ve been jamming on over on our mailing list.

And as always, if you have any questions about GNOG and our new platforms & features, or just want to say hello, you can email us any time, check out our website, or reach out to us on Twitter.
