Today we are going to talk about Korea’s unique fandom culture and how they have made K-pop stars popular all over the world. If you are not a K-pop fan, this may sound crazy and odd, but I assure you it is also intriguing because this article explains how the K-pop industry has become so big universally.

K-pop fans give tremendous power to the artists.

For example, let’s take a “study case” of Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS). The group does not come from any of Korea’s big entertainment companies — the top three companies are SM, JYP, and YG. They became popular by the love and support of their fans. The fans enabled them to perform at the American Music Awards (AMAs), to get on the Billboard chart, and so on. This kind of unique fan culture in Korea is not only for fans to reach their favorite artists, but also for fans to give tremendous power to the artists.

For each artist, their fans are everything. They are not just a “buyer” of their albums; they are much more than that. What kind of things do they do? Well, they give gifts, of course. Sometimes, they are big, fancy gifts like bags, watches, clothes from luxury brands, and they collect all the money from their fan communities to make your favorite artists feel happier. However, this is just the beginning of it.

Korea’s fandom culture is more than just giving gifts to their favorite performers. It is more like sharing. Fans collect their money to send food trucks to feed all the staff members who participated in making a drama. It is for people who worked so hard for their artists, wishing that they produce a great drama for their artists. This kind of sounds like a helicopter mom wishing their children to be better at everything, and I have to agree, it is a lot like that. (That is why sometimes their beloved fans also bring problems for them too.)

Birthday Greeting Bus & Subway Billboards

The most funny thing about K-pop fans to non-fans is that they try to promote their favorite idol bands to other people. It is because they wish the best for them. One thing that is quite common in Korea is putting up a poster or an electronic display of their favorite artists on the subway wall on their birthday! It is to celebrate their birthday, but it is not just that. It is to make sure everyone sees it, so everyone will notice it and celebrate it together. It is common to do it. Not only in the subway, but also on buses and a screen from movie theaters and big buildings where everybody can see them.

Now you kind of get the whole picture of it, K-pop fans just love sharing them. But here is the problem: for international fans, they don’t have as many opportunities like domestic fans in Korea, so they get frustrated. This is where KStarCoin (KSC) comes in. KSC will be the medium, the bridge, and the hub for international fans.

With KSC, all the international fans can do what domestic K-pop fans do. Want to know how KSC will make it happen? Go to this link!
