Defining the KU MBA experience

Recent graduates discuss what sets the KU MBA program apart

When alumna Rekha Patnaik thinks about her experience getting an MBA at the University of Kansas School of Business, “the word that comes to mind is magical,” she said.

Patnaik, who now serves as executive vice president and director of bank strategy and administration at UMB Bank in Kansas City, was one of several people who spoke with Poets & Quants’ Editor-in-Chief John Byrne last semester. Along with KU Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Neeli Bendapudi and then second-year MBA students, they discussed what makes KU’s MBA program the right fit for many students.

Some benefits are easy to see: The program offers one of the nation’s top 10 salary-to-debt ratios, and 95 percent of graduates secure a job within three months.

But alumni and Bendapudi also credit the business school’s culture and community with making the program valuable personally as well as professionally.

“The faculty and the staff, classmates and your colleagues and friends, it’s truly an incredible experience,” said alumnus Fur Finley, regional MDU partner manager at Google Fiber.
