Global Entrepreneurship Week to feature Malala Fund co-founder

The University of Kansas School of Business will celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week from Nov. 13–19.

This year marks the 10th year of Global Entrepreneurship Week and the eighth year of GEW celebrations at KU. The week provides an opportunity for people all over the world to participate in events celebrating innovation and entrepreneurship.

In conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week, the School of Business will host its annual Oswald Lecture featuring entrepreneur, technologist, investor and leader Shiza Shahid.

Shahid co-founded the Malala Fund with Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai and led the organization as founding CEO. She also launched NOW Ventures in Silicon Valley in partnership with AngelList, the largest venture capital platform in the world.

“We are so excited that Shiza is visiting KU,” said Charlotte Tritch, lecturer and associate director of entrepreneurship programs at the School of Business. “This event brings together many important themes, and is a great way to help unlock and engage the entrepreneurial mindset across the entire KU community.”

Shahid will speak at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 in Capitol Federal Hall, and registration is required to attend.

Additionally, Business Career Services will host Entrepreneurship Career Conversations at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15. The roundtable event will feature six working professionals in an entrepreneurial or startup role. Space is limited, and registration is required.

Business Career Services will also host a Lunch and Learn with Sharlene Xu, Venture for America fellow, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16. Venture for America is an entrepreneurial fellowship for recent college graduates. Registration is also required for the lunch.
