School of Business will host its second annual Accounting Week

The School of Business will host its second annual Accounting Week Monday, Sept. 10, through Wednesday, Sept. 12. The event is intended to promote the benefits and opportunities KU accounting students have in the business market and is sponsored by Deloitte and KPMG, which will gift every attendee with a free T-shirt.

Accounting Week will bring business professionals, all KU alumni, back to Capitol Federal Hall to share how their accounting degree led them to where they are today. The visiting alumni hope to educate students on the various career paths an accounting degree can lead to as well as discuss opportunities they have been presented with due to their accounting background.

Rachel Green, accounting lecturer and MAcc advisor and program coordinator, says that there are many misperceptions about accounting and what a typical accountant looks like.

“Accounting means different things to different people, and we want students to learn what accounting can mean to them,” Green said.

The business school will host four events in three days, starting off with “Accounting is Not What You Think!” which features a panel of young alumni. Panelists include Zaine Williams of EY Tax Technology Practice and Elisabeth McConnell of KPMG.

The second day includes two events: “Accounting is Not Boring!” and an Accounting Internship Panel. “Accounting is Not Boring!” will be an outdoor event happening in the West Plaza of Capitol Federal and will have treats, music and a photo booth.

The final day’s event, “Accounting is Opportunity For YOU!” will also have a young alumni panel, this time featuring Rohit Subramaniam of RSM, Andrew Hendricks of TCF Capital Funding Financial Services and Angela Foltz of Garmin.

In addition, the Business Leadership Program and Business Honors Students will get the chance to meet with the alumni panelists.
