The Hopeless Health Care Rip-Off
Jean-Louis Gassée

I would suggest looking into the Swiss model. It is the most expensive one in Europe but much closer to US model than France or Germany while doing a much better job providing universal healthcare than US. The key part of the Swiss model is the fact that it forces individuals to contribute to their own healthcare (but ensures that all are covered with state sponsored options) while providing choice — a key requirement for any compromise palatable to Americans. The flip side as mentioned is the cost vs more statist models elsewhere — it costs much more but you get value for that extra cost. Something to think about when cooler heads prevail.
