Singapore - what guidebooks won’t tell you.
The wild side of Lion City as locals know it.
Believe it or not, Singapore is much more than just shopping and well-manicured gardens.
Northeast of mainland Singapore is an island, one of the last “kampungs” (village in Malay) in the country. Allow yourself to explore the area on rented bicycles or vans.
Transport back in time as you stroll by ancient-looking houses, abandoned boats, refreshing greenery forest and quiet beaches. Have your insect repellant and sunscreen at all times though, as the mosquitoes and tropical sun can be ruthless!
Take a hike at the MacRitchie Reservoir Park and make a pit stop at the TreeTop Walk.
Just when you are drenched in sweat, wanting to give up on the steep slopes, look out for fishes in the freshwater streams as well as remnants of old structures.
Hang in there because the hike gets rewarding once you cross the 25-metre high suspension bridge. Beware of the sneaky monkeys - these ones have no mercy throwing your portable speakers into the trees underneath and others lunging straight at your glasses!
Be a Traveler, not a Tourist.
