Preparing To Be Fit
We are one of the busiest countries on the planet. Call 10 people and ask how they are doing.. I bet 8 out of them will say ‘busy bla bla bla’. For some reason we associate busy to success but how many of us are truly happy, healthy, thankful and living life to the fullest? I can’t help you prioritize your life or be thankful for the wonderful things in this world but I can tell you that after spending thousands of hours with hundreds of unhealthy people, the ONLY way you are going to be successful in health and fitness is to prepare. Yes, more than likely tomorrow is going to come.. and the next day and the next. Your meals aren’t going to magically show up in your fridge. Unless you are a crazy person, most likely you will not wake up in the morning and say to yourself ‘I have so much time today, maybe I should spend it sweating and aching and wanting to faint’.
So how do you start? The first step is to get organized. I recommend using a planner. An actual book with the days of the week that you carry around and guard with your life.
Item # 1 in your planner: your planning day. Pick one day of the week and write in a time you will plan out your week. Fridays and Sundays seem to be popular. At first it will probably take an hour but eventually you can master the planning in less than 10 minutes.
Planner item #2: meals. Let’s start with dinner. Write down what you are going to have for dinner every night that week.
Planner item #3: groceries. Unfortunately there is no magic grocery fairy that will read your list and make them appear… or is there? Write a list (that matches the 7 meals for the week) and see what happens. If the fairy skips your house than what do you think you should write down next?
Planner item #4: grocery shopping day. Pick a time and write it down. If you don’t go grocery shopping every week than do 2 weeks at a time.
Finally, item #5: workouts. For some of you that word is so scary and immediately makes you want to run to the Oreos for comfort. DON’T DO IT! This can be something as simple as a 20 minute walk around the block or it can be 2 hours of sweat and tears with the gym rats.
The hardest part is sticking to the plan. If you are a busy person than a crock pot will be your best friend. Pick meals that you can prep in the morning and you will have no excuse to stop at McBell on your way home to get a quick burgerito.
Also, you can cook twice the servings and freeze half for an easy meal next week.
Use your head you busy people, this stuff is not rocket science. If you are married and don’t handle the groceries, send this article to your other half with a basket of fruit and thank them for being so awesome.
