The Magazine sells in Nigeria and to Nigerians. It probably also has a lot of readers interested in what’s happening in Africa’s biggest economy. It thus has a duty to report and pass comments on the country especially when it needs to provide a background to the Countrys currency crisis.
To paraphrase Voltaire, I may not agree with the Economist, but I would defend their rights to say what they did. If GEJ is not an ineffectual buffoon, the logical reaction is to prove it .
We need to gradually rid ourselves of the unnecessarily obsequious tendency in our culture to soften or avoid the criticism of our leaders and Elders.
