Well put Grant, forget the knockers, we rob ourselves by not being properly connected with the whole history of Australia. Cook was not the first “European to find Australia” Dirk Hartog and several others precede him. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_exploration_of_Australia] Abel Tasman being the one who anglicised the Spanish phrase into Australia. However all of your knockers seem to ignore even the European facts, [I learned these in primary school over 50 years ago!] What I didn’t learn was the Indigenous story, in fact what we did learn was absolute ignorance looking back. Also Australia Day is actually January 1st 1901, however I agree that we need a New Day as New Years Day was a good idea back then but not so now due to “hang overs.” What about Springtime as in coming out of the darkness of winters past?
