Why Do I Lie About Seeing Movies?

This goes for acting as if I’ve heard music and read books, too.

If you asked me, “Do you give a fuck about appearing well-read or cultured?”

“I don’t give a fuck.” I would say.

And yet, here I am, nodding and mhming, to appear well-read and cultured. I get no joy from bullshitting or being able to bullshit. So then, why do I do this? I think, the “Oh, yes, I’ve seen that”-reflex is a result of my childhood. A time when I did care to seem well-read and cultured. It’s a habit I’ve brought into adulthood. I am working on it though. Not that I give a fuck.
