Why the NSA Called Me After Midnight and Requested My Source Code
Peter Avritch

Well done.

Sadly few will understand what sharing the source of the 40bit code means. Without the code, NSA can still crack it. It’s only 40bits. The file layouts were probably helpful. But the entire reason the code is not the issue is even with the source, reverse engineering won’t magically spit out the decrypted text.

More like, considering what we now know about the NSA they did a quick check to see if you made a mistake in the design of the 40bit version. If it was a ‘common’ mistake they already had a solution to crack it.

Good call on your part. And for ‘Dave’ as well.
