Depression has also been my partner for 58 years straight. When I was young, people would say: “you’re too young to be depressed” and laugh. Because of this, I received no help until I was diagnosed with anorexia in my mid 20s (psychiatry didn’t know what that was back then, so I was put in psychiatric hospitals). In addition, I have paruresis which makes the depression even worse because it reminds you each and every day that you are not as good as those around you.
