I recently started a project that tries to put the numbers around the COVID-19 pandemic into perspective. I have focused on mortality rate (deaths from COVID-19 per capita) and case fatality ratio. The Our World In Data project provides international data on the COVID-19 pandemic. Data for US states was sourced from the COVID Tracking Project. I used this data to create a tool that lets you explore correlation between various factors including average income, GDP per capita, population density, median age, income inequality (as measured by the Gini coefficient) and COVID-19 mortality rates across the world and within the US. Needless to say, correlation does not imply causation.
