HONOLULU — State Representative Kaniela Ing received Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s first endorsement since her historic upset victory in this week’s primary election for New York’s 14th Congressional District.

“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s primary victory shows that people want government to represent them, not the rich or corporations,” said Rep. Kaniela Ing. “Ocasio-Cortez’s background, proud progressive platform, and organizing ability symbolize the future of the Democratic party and our nation. That future is now. Alexandria and I were both recruited by the same progressive group to run for Congress, participated in the same trainings, and we are endorsed by many of the same organizations. Receiving her first official endorsement since winning the primary is an honor and I hope to join Alexandria in Washington, D.C. to fight for aloha.”

Both millennials, Ocasio-Cortez and Ing come from working-class families. Their platforms both call for Medicare for all, getting big money out of politics, fully funded public schools and universities, the Green New Deal, criminal justice reform, and housing as a human right.

“America: Please send @KanielaIng to Congress with me!” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted yesterday. “He is incredibly inspiring — another working class American who knocked on 15,000 doors to win his state assembly seat. Now he’s running for Congress. Imagine what we could accomplish if we both went in together.”
