National Review’s Essays is Officially The GOP Battle of Fort Sumpter — Part I.
By, Kevin C.
The bloodiest war this nation has ever been a part of began as the opening shots rang out at the Battle of Fort Sumpter. The enemy was our own people, the casualties were felt far beyond the number of dead alone, and the war was the American Civil War. With the release of American Review’s Anti-Trump compilation of essays, the occasional eruptions of GOP infighting has officially become an all out Civil War. I couldn’t possibly be more disgusted & disheartened over this opening salvo. The last thing the GOP needed as they seek to be put back into power to reverse the severe damage caused by Obama & his socialist policies of the past 7 years was the have what was nothing more than a sibling squabble before today explode into an all out brawl where clear lines were drawn in the sand. The GOP is under constant attack from the liberal left Marxist politicians as they fire shot after shot through their personal propadanga machine known as the American media. The liberal control & influence over the media is the type of censorship and state controlled release of information that was infamously used to brainwash the population by the USSR & Nazi Germany’s Minister of Propadanda, Joseph Goebbels. They have proven to be the single most important part of the liberal reclamation and recent rise to power, that is until the opening shots fired by National Review earlier today.
For those of you who have been under a rock all day and aren’t familiar with this issue, National Review is a magazine group that publishes a monthly periodical on conservative beliefs and politics. They are the men and women of the GOP who are found all the way at the far right end of the political spectrum. Today they released a special issue consisting of a compilation of essays written by self-proclaimed “conservative scholars” as a last ditch attempt to derail Donald Trump’s movement towards the GOP Nomination to run for President in 2016. To summarize what I just read in one sentence, the publication is a bunch of opinion essays written by people who have unmatched egos that has them believe they are smarter than everyone and would rather see a sworn enemy succeed over a like-minded relative due to pure jealousy. The insurgency and sabotage tactics from this element of the GOP is nothing new, but the National Review Essays took things to a new, dangerous level.
I have been a registered Republican and social conservative from the time I was able to form my first political thought. I come from a liberal household that has union delegates at the head and have grown proud of my black sheep status over the years. I have dedicated countless hours of volunteer work and service to the GOP and their candidates which started at 18 years old and continues to this day. I became concerned about the direction the GOP was headed in when Obama was first elected President in 2008. It was at this time that the grassroots faction within the GOP known as the Tea Party started to gain momentum and notoriety. What I saw next was the GOP power players step aside and allow this Tea Party faction to hijack the GOP name to spread their extreme views. This came about at a time when the GOP was trying to recover from the Anti-Bush movement & when the future of the party was at a crossroads. They were left with the decision whether they would adapt to the changing times in order to grow and attract the incoming generation of new voters or to keep the old guard in power as they remained stubborn and closed minded to the changing public sentiment of the country. Unfortunately, stubbornness prevailed and the Tea Party Movement was given power and influence within the party. After seeing the mistake that was made, the progressive faction of the party, the ones who had long term vision, tried to wrestle back control and direction of the party by moving funds and manpower towards younger, progressive candidates that appealed to the moderate constituency that was burned by Obama & his failure to come through on his unrealistic campaign promises. Rather than support the change of direction within the party as the progressive had done when the Tea Party was given their failed chance to become the GOP future, the right wing fought back like a bunch of spoiled children who were told no ice cream until all their vegetables were eaten. As though it was the first time ever told no, they waged primary campaigns against the endorsed candidates to force their wishes to come true. Despite the majority of primary election voters being the far right conservatives, a large majority of these challengers lost their bid to steal the GOP nominations away from the progrssive candidates. With their egos still unwilling to accept they had blown their chance to be in power, many of those challengers still ran in the general election, mostly on the Conservative Party line without a remote chance of winning, only to siphon votes away from the GOP candidate which allowed several liberal democrats win election bids they should have lost. Rather than support the fellow members of the GOP who supported them when they were given the chance, despite having fundamental differences as well, the right wing extremists chose to help those who were complete ideological opposites — the liberal democrats — regain power. It was a clear case of biting off ones nose to spite his face. Their egos could not allow a group with similar beliefs be put in a position that was more powerful than what they had. They blew the chance they were given from 2008-2012 & their new goal was to make sure the progressive faction failed as well. These are the people who have labeled themselves with grandiose titles like “Conservative Scholars.” They are what was known as the Tea Party Movement. They are the men and women who wrote essays for the American Review publication released today. They are the people who fired the first shots of the current GOP Civil War. It is this end result that I saw as a likely outcome from the GOP giving them a chance to seize control of the party. It is this outcome that all but guarantees another 8 years of socialist rule over America. It is this foreseeable outcome from the horrible decision to give this faction a voice & stage to be heard from that has me questioning my party allegiance for the first time in 20 years. The essays I read are just opinion papers stating why the author dislikes Donald Trump. There is almost no tangible proof or evidence to support the allegations made against Trump. There are more quotes from the Bible in the compilation of essays than actual examples of the events they allege to have taken place. As not wanting to disappoint, the essays contain countless reference to their ideological higher power, Ronald Reagan, along with quotes from the Federalist Papers and their flawed beliefs of the intentions and desires of the Founding Fathers. In one sentence they talk about the fundamental conservative belief of small government with no interference or regulation of private issues. The following sentence talks of another fundamental belief being their hardline stance against abortion. What you won’t find is any single essay that even attempts to make sense of the clear & hypocritical contradiction & oxymoron that smacks you in the face when you put those two fundamental beliefs together. They want a small government that doesn’t interfere with private issues but tell all women what they can & can’t do with their bodies. Is it possible to have a more personal issue one has than how & what to do to their own body? I highly doubt I am the only one scratching their head over this brain teaser. Don’t bother wasting your time worrying though because I still haven’t heard a plausible explanation for this double standard from any single one of these alleged scholars. I guess even that one is too much for them, for had they came up with a solid response by now, they would have renamed themselves “Conservative Geniuses.” To make up for it, they will deliver on the promise that if you pay attention to them, you’ll never be far from a borderline obsessive praising of Ronald Reagan, a guy who hasn’t been in office for just about 30 years now. I guess being stuck in the 80’s deptives one of having the ability to break down an issue and solve a problem. Nevertheless, if this issue interests you I ask that you check back over the next few days to read my thoughts, opinions, analyses of the essays and the issues they touch. I hope you enjoy the readings & I promise to deliver a few laughs at the expense of these clowns.
