Keeping Warm in Winter: Men’s Outerwear
It’s the winter, and for many people who have to wear a suit to work, it’s a bit of a slog. Sure, summer can get hot and sweaty, but winter lets the bitter cold creep under your slacks, and many winter coats don’t do your outfits any justice either in style or in keeping you warm.
If you’re looking for some good winterwear to pair with your menswear, you’ve come to the right place. Here are some good options to keep yourself warm during the frigid months
1. Floor-length Overcoat
Often jokingly referred to as “the detective” overcoat ( given how often they wear this style, both in real life and in movies), this coat–which is similar to a thick trench coat–can make a great, classy accompaniment to your suit. The coat covers you from head to toe, helping to insulate you from the cold, while also have enough “old school” charm to look stylish.
2. Zippered Jacket
The simplest option, the zippered jacket is just what is sounds like: a heavier, waist length jacket that zips up, often either in black or gray to match the majority of men’s suits. It’s arguably the least “stylish” jacket on this list, but if at the end of the day you just need an easy, solid coat to keep you warm on the way to work, this can definitely do the job.
If you’re a bigger man, this generally won’t be the best look for you, but for many of us a peacoat is just what is needed during the cold winter months. Usually made of all wool and traditionally worn by sailors/navy officers, these are definitely built to keep the frigid winds at bay. Even better is that their elegant simplicity works well with most suits. Peacoats can either be waist-long or knee-long depending on the cut, but either one should work depending on your personal preference.
