Hi Gordie Jackson! It’s odd how places can shape us. One of the things I always find intriguing when arriving in a new place where you’re spending any time at all (even a couple of days) is thinking about what it would be like to grow up there.

There’s a theory that the landscape we group up with is the one we become most attached to. Not sure how true this is, but might explain why I prefer downland and open plains, because that’s what I grew up with in Wiltshire, whilst my grandparents always found it a bit barren — their preference was for Kent, which was where they grew up.

So, to what extent do we choose the places we travel to, or do they choose us?
