So many true words here and in the responses. My particular ‘denials' arr:

  1. Putting others’ needs first at the expense of my own feelings.
  2. Not saying ‘no’ to requests, and then getting annoyed with myself as I’ve wasted half the day on things I didn’t want to do in the first place at the expense of those I did.
  3. Being talked over and not saying anything about it because I don’t want to hurt the other person’s feelings or being seen as a nuisance.

Politeness and putting others’ feelings first were paramount when I was growing up — that’s where most of these come from. Anything else would just NOT do!
