I just wanted to reiterate that, on the 2nd memorial of the Parkland shooting, the survivors still struggle, each in their own way, and trauma can be retriggered. If you are someone or know someone affected by Parkland, be sensitive and trauma-aware today. The event does not disappear with time. We learn how to navigate forward and mediate the pain.

And for survivors of other trauma, today can be retriggering also. Since it is also Valentines Day, please remember to use your heart. That is the best way to touch someone who needs you.

Here are two links to some pieces on Trauma Anniversaries that may be helpful:

For the future, I have a Tip Sheet for how to think about trauma memorials. It will be downloadable on www.karengrosseducation.com. This topic is also addressed in my forthcoming book, Trauma Doesn’t Stop at the School Door (TCPress June 2020), and I will be presenting on this on Monday, Feb. 17th at the Creating Trauma Sensitive School Conference in Atlanta (where there are attachments on the website for the conference).
