The Perks of Tidying Up Your Stuffs

For people who are constantly seeking for happiness.

I totally agree with someone who once said “you are responsible for your own happiness”. You are not fully in control with what the universe conspires to please or disappoint you. Bad things happen. Your favorite bakery closed the other day, you spilled coffee to your favorite shirt, you failed those final examinations, or your boyfriend did not return your call. However, you should always remember that you are completely in control to not let those things ruin your day. In fact, simple thing can create happiness, such as tidying up your room!

I guess you just said no in your mind. Don’t do that. Listen to me first.

Have you ever wonder that there is a correlation between your room tidiness and your daily mood? Especially for well-organized people like me, yes there is a strong correlation. Whenever I am going through a bad day, looking at my messy room will not improve my mood in any way.

First, tidying up your stuffs means you know the exact location of every single object that you possess. It means, you can easily find the calculator when you are struggling with your assignments, as well as those bobby-pins (which were always missing in nanoseconds) when you are having a bad hair day. Trying to find things especially when you are in a hurry is never fun, and it often makes people frustrated. Therefore, maintaining the right place for your stuffs will generally make you happy, and secure.

Besides that, cleaning and tidying up your room will make your place looks and smells better. Sometimes we feel like we don’t like being in our own home. We feel happier when we go out to our friend’s place or even public places. Well, may be the ultimate reason is simply because your place is messy! Logically speaking, if you do not like your own place, how could other people be happy visiting yours? Having an organized and clean space will create sense of pride and satisfaction. And when your house looks good due to your efforts, you will be instantly happy being there.

In contrast to what many people believe, cleaning actually reduces stress! Most of the times people suffered from stress because they are out of power or control of their own life. By creating an organized personal room, people will induce proof to themselves that there is something that they can control. Cleaning will not only making us feel better when we are doing it, but it will also create a good mood when we finally enjoy the cleaner environment.

It is widely acceptable that tidying up is not people’s favorite chores. However, it can be your next favorite thing to do if you have already felt its benefit. Let’s start small by making your bed right after you wake up.

Once you feel better about your room, you will probably feel better about yourself.
