Hillary Clinton Trailing In Key States

Hillary Clinton Trailing In Key States: Since no significant Democrat appears likely to challenge her, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton remains the presumptive frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. However, recent polls conducted for American Crossroads suggest that she trails a generic Republican in six battleground states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia.

The May poll conducted by Vox Populi Polling found 35% of voters would vote for an unspecified Republican nominee over Mrs. Clinton if the election were held today, while 16% would “lean Republican.” Only 27% would definitely vote for Mrs. Clinton and just 13% would “lean Clinton.” This leaves Mrs. Clinton trailing a generic Republican candidate by ten points, 41% to 51%. The polling also suggests Mrs. Clinton has an image problem among voters in these six states. Twenty-seven percent of respondents “strongly” agree and 15% “somewhat” agree that she represents the past, not the future. Forty percent “completely distrust” Mrs. Clinton, while an additional 12% “somewhat distrust” her.

In addition, 52% stated that the fact Mrs. Clinton could be the first female president would not impact their support. Mrs. Clinton would do well to stop hiding from the press and instead offer a stronger agenda, because neither arguing it is “her turn” or stressing she would be the first woman president will be enough for voters next year.
