Muse
Sometimes this cream white screen is my best friend. So inviting and open. Listening intently to my every word, lingering onto each syllable. Other days, it sits mockingly on the desk. Today is one of those days. Inspiration has escaped my grasp, and is nowhere in sight. I reminisce back to yesterday, where thoughts and words seemed to flow effortlessly onto the page. Any a mere day later, my muse has vanished. my words echo off the page, ringing back in my mind making me like each phrase is more mediocre than the last. And yet I keep writing. Why? Well because just because today is not your day doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do what you love. There will be days when your passion flows. Where everything is as it should be. Where you don’t even notice time passing by. It’s just you and your craft. Savor it. Whatever it may be. Attack the canvas with all your emotions, beat the drums till you feel your heart racing faster than the music, write till your hand turns blue and cramps up due to the sheer passion you’ve spilled on the page. Experience every moment of your artistic journey. The euphoric highs. The rock-bottom lows. Even now as I write this I notice a shift in my mood. By means of forcing myself to write, what started out as entry that began a resentful message to an inanimate object, has turned into an appreciation for passion. Without even realising the journey that my writing has taken me on, I now smile as I write. The indifference that I had when I first laid my pen onto the sheet has now turned into joy.
Just because you have passion for something doesn’t mean that you will create a masterpiece everyday. The process is arduous. Sometimes you may force yourself. Trying to pour your heart into a project, only to realise at the end of the day that no matter how committed you were, no matter how long you spent on it, it just didn’t turn out how you wanted it to. So should you give up? Well no, and the reason is quite simple. Just as you can have a trying day, you can also have a day where your brush hits the canvas and your emotions take over. It’s all about seizing everyday for all the possibilities that may present themselves.
