Is Kashmir’s Freedom Struggle all About Establishing an Islamic Holy Land?
You have to be a stupid of the highest order to think that the common Kashmiris need to be misled to demand freedom from Indian occupation at a time when in mainland India a Muslim is lynched for eating beef, a dalit couple is murdered for 15 rupees, a mosque is demolished to build a temple in its place and a well known communally retarded man is elected to power with absolute majority. As an ordinary Indian you have to be deluded to really believe that Kashmiris cannot decide for themselves how and with whom their future is secure. I am not even talking about 100,000 dead and 10,000 disappeared of Kashmir, the only qualification that your army wears like a badge and gets rewarded every year on 26th January for that.
Most of the Indians that I debate are victims of well paid propaganda that Kashmiris are too naive to look beyond the religious sentiments and regional aspirations. That’s not the case at all. 70 years of occupation and 26 years of armed conflict is no doubt good enough to render people ineffective at decision making, but with absolute confidence I can say that we Kashmiris are not demanding anything that is wrong or anything that we don’t deserve.
Indians occasionally accuse us (as if that is wrong in any way) that we are fighting for an Islamic holy land and in their support say, why do protestors chant “Yehan kya chalega Nizame Mustafa” and why was Burhan talking about Islamic Caliphate. How conveniently they forget that even Mahatma Gandhi used Khilafat (caliphate) Movement during his time against their British masters. Why do Indians always find it difficult to understand that whenever there is oppression, illegal occupation of people’s land, a violation of their basic human rights and state sponsored terrorism. People try to unify under any reason when they are collectively being prosecuted in such ways. Our religion is like an umbrella under which we all stand united against a common oppressor. It is not the reason why we want India out of Kashmir, but the source of our strength against Indian oppression.
