It’s interesting to me that you say “in our culture, activism is still deemed a worthy endeavor.” I have always felt that we live in a very anti-activist culture. My parents were big believers in social engagement — volunteerism, donating to worthy causes, electoral politics — but activism was something kind of shameful. I feel that’s pretty common. It’s rare in TV or movies to see activists portrayed well; more often, they are either ridiculous or dangerous.
