Communications Manager

At Medium, we care about the details. You can tell from the way our product is built and designed that our users’ experience matters. We’ve spent the last couple years building a better system for people to exchange stories and ideas: and now we’re telling Medium’s own story in the world.

We’re searching for a communications manager to join the PR team and tell stories around Medium’s product and content, spreading our messages around the world. Our team is nimble, fun and personality-driven: we love interesting, smart people who will represent the brand and the company in an articulate and thoughtful way.

What will you be doing in this role?

  • Work with the Head of Communications, as well as others on the executive team and throughout the company to find compelling stories and run launches and announcements for Medium products, content and partner initiatives
  • Lead ongoing media relationships with key consumer, trade, tech and business press, both nationally and internationally
  • Develop written materials including communications plans, Medium posts, briefing notes and other collateral
  • Be comfortable with a role that requires you wear many hats, are adaptable, and willing to do whatever it takes to make things happen (within reason, of course)

  • You’ve done this before: 5+ years in-house PR experience; tech or startup preferable
  • You have excellent judgement: You solve problems with creativity and sometimes even anticipate them before they arise. You plan, organize and prioritize with ingenuity
  • You know stories: You can build stellar narratives which always relate to company priorities; you always exceed your own coverage goals
  • You have great relationships: Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written). You build trust within our team and with reporters, too
  • You love teams and moving quickly: You have a demonstrated ability to collaborate with others and be a strong, cross-functional player. You like to seize opportunities and are comfortable with a fast-paced environment
