Louisville Funeral Services for Legendary Boxer Muhammad Ali

A respected New York real estate agent with Brown Harris Stevens, Kathy Sloane has facilitated many of the city’s noteworthy transactions over the past two decades. The wife of the former Louisville, Kentucky, mayor, Kathy Sloane was a close friend of the late boxer Muhammad Ali, who has Louisville roots.

The well-attended June 2016 funeral services for Ali were held in Louisville and included public procession and private burial. Honorary pallbearers included Larry Holmes, one of a handful of fighters to defeat Ali during his lifetime, and George Foreman, whom also successfully went up against in the legendary “Rumble in the Jungle.” Governor John Y. Brown and former Louisville Mayor Harvey Sloane also served as honorary pallbearers at the funeral.

The services culminated with a public memorial held at the KFC Yum! Center, which included a heartfelt eulogy by the late boxer’s wife, Lonnie, who was a devoted caregiver and protector of Ali’s legacy.

Having arranged a homecoming parade for the fighter during his lifetime, Mrs. Sloane is presently working with local politicians on a plan to list Ali’s former home as a historic site.
