I Believe it Can Be Easy
It’s not really the done thing, the cool thing, to talk about business being easy.
You want something amazing in your life? You better work for it sister! You PUT the time in, you PUT the money in, you put the God damn blood and sweat and tears in, you got me?!
But also -
It can be easy.
There is a vast difference between doing work you’re not really excited about, that does not light you up from within, that you’re doing for money or pride or recognition or simply because you’ve always done it and it’s not really occurred to you that it’s a choice, versus -
The work that flows from within.
Either way, you will battle. Either way, you will spend time and money and energy and emotion. Either way, you will bleed and sweat and cry and BURN for the work that you do.
But there’s a difference between blood spent on work that matters, that feeds your soul, and blood spent, pain felt, for work that you don’t really care about, not really, not ever.
It’s easy to suffer for the life you were meant to live.
Maybe not at first, for sure. At first there’s the terror of laying yourself on the line for your true dreams. The torment of not knowing if it will work. The horror when it doesn’t at first, and perhaps the shock that goes along with it as you realise ‘oh fuck — this is actually going to take ONGOING effort; that first leap wasn’t enough!’.
But with time, and with absolute commitment, you learn that the pain of chasing your dreams and of living into your calling is a pain you would GLADLY embrace forever. It’s a pain you come to love; the pain of stretching and growing and expanding further into the YOU who you were born to be. Exquisite pain, is what it is.
So when you tell yourself you have to struggle and fight and that there’s no quick fix, well yes you do have to struggle and of course there’s no magic pill, but also — IT CAN BE EASY.
And here is what easy feels like:
Easy is choosing to believe you can make money from your art, from the work that’s inside of you and flows through you, the work you often can’t pin down or even explain but yet you know it matters and that it can change the world in some way.
Easy is making up your mind that you will always have enough, even more than enough! Enough money, enough time, enough space for your dreams.
Easy is deciding that when you create, you’ll do so in a way that feels good for you, that the act of ‘work’ will be based on your natural leanings and desires and that if it’s not a hell yeah — every part of it — then it’s a hell no.
Easy is deciding that enough already, with the back and forth dip your toe in the water approach to doing business on your terms. That you’re going to just go ALL in, and stop running back to the shore; to where it feels safe, but where you actually find yourself further sucked into the vortex and then have to fight to once more free yourself.
Easy is choosing your true work over short-term gains or glory, which are often not to be found anyway when we chase them.
Easy is realising that you don’t have to do everything and that if you focus your resources on the work that comes from within many other tasks will just fade away, become unimportant, never mattered anyway.
Easy is a CHOICE.
Easy is a BELIEF.
Easy doesn’t mean you sit back and life hands you your dreams on a silver platter. Easy means you work your fucking BUTT off, but you do it in a way that is RIGHT. In a way that is SATISFYING on a soul level. In a way that you’d want to come back to day after day after day because the joy of the fight is almost transcendental for you.
How do you get to easy?
You make up your mind that from here on out, whilst you will continue to struggle and fight you will no longer struggle and fight against your true self, your deep calling, and the message you want to get out into the world.
You make up your mind that you’re just going to say what you need to say -
Create what is within you to create -
Let it be messy -
Or awful -
Just let it — be. Let it out. Let it go.
You make up your mind to trust.
That you can have a life that way, you can be that sort of person, it can and will be okay.
You make up your mind that it will be worth it, that whatever price you have to pay is fine, if it allows you to be the creator, the healer, the leader or whoever you are called to be.
It’s pretty simple really.
Either way you’re going to struggle, you’re going to fight, you’re going to work like a mofo to create and produce and complete and teach. The difference between easy or not is just that you choose the struggle that means something to you.
