The Warm-up Routine

I’ve developed a new “get pumped” routine before I head out to any training activities. It involves three things:

  1. Watch the first 16 minutes of the U.S. Women’s World Cup 2015 final. In 16 minutes, I witness the pure joy that comes from dedicating oneself to training. Seeing Carli Lloyd’s grin after her hat-trick goal makes me let out an audible laugh of amazement every. single. time.
  2. Drink dark roast coffee. I’ve gone back-and-forth on whether to drink coffee before or after an early morning workout, but these days I’m getting up early enough to make an at-home pour-over brew of Honduran coffee to get my body fired up.
  3. Listen to Push it by iSHi. I love the background beat in this song. With Beats on to drown out the sound of the city around me, this song gets me in the zone and ready to push it.

Today was my third day at Accelerate Sports Performance, and I can see the progress we’ve made in such a short time. My landing is better. My one-footed balance is sturdier. My A skips are higher. My power lifts still suck, but I believe we will get there!

Now it’s time to watch some game film. Washington Spirit v. Chicago Red Stars to see World Cup stars in action and specifically study how Ashlyn Harris moves in her 18 yard box and decides when to come off her line for the challenge.
