The Inhumane Detainment of Julian Assange
Angelina Fox

I think of the plight of Julian Assange often, and my heart breaks for him. I have never witnessed an injustice so great, be ignored by the peoples of the world who claim to have so much compassion for those who are being treated inhumanely.

The United Nations, and indeed, the United States of America, have intervened in countries, throughout the world, where the violations of human rights were being abused. How are we, as a country, able to overlook and justify the mistreatment of a man who has done so much to stand for the truth that we all seek and hold dear?

For the answer to this, I turn to my Bible, as I so often do, to seek understanding and enlightenment. I am reminded of the scripture found in Isaiah 5:20, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” This is what is happening in the world that we are living in. This is what is happening to Julian Assange.

Assange is being vilified for being good, revealing truth, and standing for those who are being oppressed by evil. I wonder to myself, how can someone, as small as I am, be able to see this so clearly, and those who are supposed to be so educated, and wise, remain so blind?

And, then.. again, I turn to my Bible and history, and find how this has happened down thru time, to so many who have been innocent of wrong doing, indeed, who have been punished, even losing their lives for standing on truth.

John, the Baptist, was beheaded. The Apostle Peter was hung upside down. The Apostle Andrew was crucified on an X shaped cross in Greece. The Apostle Matthew was impaled to the ground by spears, and then beheaded.

The Apostle Bartholomew, also known as Nathaniel, was whipped to death, literally flayed, and torn into shreds. Apostle Philip’s death was exceedingly cruel, he was impaled by iron hooks in his ankles and hung upside down to die. The Apostle Jude was crucified in Persia. The Apostle Matthias, who replaced Judas, was stoned, and then beheaded.

There are many more, who were mocked, horribly abused and yes, killed, for the sake of defending truth. Will Julian Assange be named in their number when historians record the events in his life?

Have we all become so desensitized to human suffering that we can ignore the plight of Julian? Have we come to have so little regard for truth, that we would turn our backs on those who seek to reveal it?

While we go about living our lives, free to enjoy the smell of fresh air, to feel a small breeze blowing thru our hair, to see the beauty of nature around us, the sound of birds chirping, and to enjoy the rain as it replenishes the earth, Julian Assange is locked inside, denied these small pleasures, afforded to us.

How sad it is to see history repeated all over again. Have we learned nothing from the mistakes of our ancestors? Are we doomed to repeat these same mistakes, with the same result, all over again?

I tell you, that those who were responsible for the atrocities committed against the Apostles, did not escape the judgement of God. And, I warn those who are responsible for the incarceration of Julian Assange that they will not escape either. What a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God!

“ And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” -Hebrews 9:27 kjv

We all have an appointment with God, and we will keep it. We will all be weighed in the balance, and every man will receive a just reward, as stated in the scriptures; “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” -Revelation 22:12

Lest any forget, and think that they will escape the judgement of God, I will leave you with this scripture; “For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” -Romans 14:11

The decisions that our governments make have repercussions. How high and mighty they are to pass judgement and condemn a man to a life of imprisonment, to be denied the joy of communing with his family, to celebrate the milestones that mark each of their lives. These are the small pleasures that we, as individuals and as a nation, enjoy every day.

I want it to be noted, that I object, strenuously, to the treatment of Julian Assange, and I do not want to be among the number of those that are guilty of the atrocities being committed against him. I want to be found on the right side of history, and more than that.. on the right side of God.

I ask you, the Governments of the World, and particularly, the President of the United States, to consider what is being done to this man, and ask yourself, is it right? Is it just? What side are you on? The world is watching, and so is God.

If anyone has the power to intervene on behalf of Julian Assange, I beg you to do so.

May God Bless Those Who Stand For Truth!
