Agree with most of what you said… though who keeps perpetuating this notion that Uber or Lyft were never intended to be a full time job? Where did this start from? Certainly not Uber or Lyft, esp when they suggested drivers could make $90K a year… or even $35/hr ($70K if it were true)… I know an Uber Select driver (I think it is/was UberPlus in California) that made over $100K in one year. Good luck duplicating that effort now… Even in a city with a high cost of living, any of those incomes would be a livable wage and far more than most Americans make for income.
