Technology is rapidly taking over our world and we are excited for what the future of tech will present us with. Whether we like it or not, technology is constantly changing the way we live our lives. Cities with some of the most advanced technological systems are San Francisco, New York, London, Los Angeles, Taipei, Seoul, Stockholm, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo. These are among the highest on the technologically advanced cities list in the entire world.

Are you someone who is constantly keeping up to date with technology and with what it is doing for our world? You may be considered a techie! A techie is someone who is skilled in the technical field or gets excited about it, especially when it comes to computing. Even if you are not a programmer, developer or coder, you can still be considered a techie. Techies can be people who are simply knowledgeable about technology, enthusiastic users of tech but do not necessarily work in the realm of tech. For example, you can be interested in tech gadgets and not know how they are made but know how they work, such as smartphone users.

Techies can also be more distinct people like Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates, who have founded their own technology companies and are dedicated to the formation of the tech world. These are people who know the ins and outs of technology, both behind the scenes and after their products have been produced and delivered. Techies take up a huge portion of the cities mentioned previously, especially in Silicon Valley — the tech hub of well-known companies such as Google, Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Twitter, Uber, and Yelp.

Here are 5 signs that indicate you might be a techie:

1. You are obsessed with technology
You can barely go a day without technology in your life and you feel some sort of separation anxiety when you are not around it. You are frequently checking your phone or other devices for updates, news, emails, texts, etc. You want to be in the know of everything tech-related.

2. You want to know everything related to technology
Even if you are not constantly checking up on your cell phone or emails, you are curious about new technologies that are changing our world day to day. You read tech blogs, books, newsletters, or newspapers and watch tv channels, listen to radio stations, podcasts, lectures, or audiobooks that reveal what high-tech leaders are saying or what tech announcements are coming out.

3. You work in a tech field or you would like to
Perhaps you are a coder, developer, programmer, or someone who works in a technology-related field. Perhaps you would like to work in a technological field but you are still highly interested in learning about tech and you own a bunch of gadgets or electronics. You could very much be considered a techie.

4. Your vocabulary is mostly filled with tech terms
Perhaps you’ve spent time browsing this list of 99 tech terms or you use most of them in your job, classes, readings, or in your own time researching tech. Perhaps your vocab isn’t filled with tech terms but you understand more or less when someone else drops the words “embedding”, “retina display”, “HTML”, “CSS”, “Bugs”, or “Big Data” and you get thrilled about it.

5. You would rather spend time on your electronic devices
We are not saying you are antisocial, but perhaps you would prefer to spend your free time with your electronic devices. We get it! Maybe you just purchased your newest gadget and can’t wait to open it and figure out how to use it! Perhaps you want to do this uninterrupted so you can focus on how to use the product. This is a true techie indicator.

At KeepCoding, we like to consider ourselves “techies.” The term “techies” may have some negative associations that come with it, but we consider it something positive. We pride ourselves on being challenged by the world of technology and also continuing to challenge it. We are lovers and welcomers of tech, programming, developing and coding in specific.

Though we may also consider ourselves “coders”, “hackers”, or “creators”, we believe “techies” is a simple way to describe ourselves and our devotion to technology. We aim to provide our students with the best bootcamp courses so that they can learn as much as possible about tech and apply it to their personal lives. Ultimately, if you consider yourself a techie, we want you to join us! If you are interested in learning more about the bootcamps we offer, please visit us at www.keepcoding.io.
