Lets first make one thing clear: You don’t need a computer science degree to get a software developer job.

Many Computer Science graduates even from IVY league universities have trouble finding work due to their lack of experience with real web development projects. We hear about this problem often; colleges haven´t prepared their students for the real deal, which is why a coding bootcamp could be the best alternative.

Coding bootcamps are rising in popularity as an alternative to costly universities and massive student loans in the United States. According to Make Lemonade, there are more than 44 million borrowers with $1.3 trillion in student loan debt in the U.S. alone. The average student in the Class of 2016 has $37,172 in student loan debt. Which is why starting this summer KeepCoding Silicon Valley will be offering our courses for practically free to encourage students and career change seeking professionals an opportunity to train and improve their coding skills. We want to help students find an alternative solution to costly student loans and be fully equipped for the real world of programming.

Coding bootcamps offer a more personal hands-on learning experience at a much more affordable price than universities. A coding bootcamp is an alternative way to switch careers, learn new lucrative skills, and become a junior/professional developer. If you are looking to become a full stack developer studying Computer Science in a university isn’t always a practical option. For most people, quitting their job, going back to school for 4 years, and accumulating hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt, isn’t a practical option either. Especially if you already are a college graduate or have studied something else.

Fact: CS degrees are declining while both software developer jobs and coding bootcamp enrollments are growing.

Coding bootcamps generally teach the specific tools that are applicable in the real world. Bootcamps are able to update their curriculum to include the technologies that are more relevant and cutting edge. At KeepCoding you will learn the exact skills that prospective employers are looking for and receive one on one mentorship, giving you the advantage. Employers are always going to ask about your experience, and we at KeepCoding know that from our own experience. At KeepCoding , you’ll receive a more hands-on teaching experience and professional guidance with real projects versus heavy focus on theory and underlying principles.

The job outlook for software developers is growing at 22%, or “much faster than average,” according to the United States Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.

If you’re looking for an interesting, challenging, and lucrative career option that pushes you, a coding bootcamp is likely to get you there faster and much cheaper without the student debt. Bootcamp students receive resume prep assistance, apprenticeship or internship placement, and job placement assistance. We believe in making sure our students develeop practical knowledge and skills not just meanlingless credentials.

Quick note: You can get the college degree later. If you do get a job with a good employer, oftentimes they have tuition reimbursement, which just widens the gap between college vs non college as pertains to opportunity cost.

All this being said, we encourage the majority of people and students to still go to college. A degree is a powerful tool to have in life.
