Biggest influnces on my economic thinking are Anwar Shaikh, Rick Wolf, and David Harvey.
I studied with Anwar Shaikh. He is a big influence. Mostly because he unambiguously defends the labor theory of value and the the falling rate of profit. To me that’s the crucial thing… the falling rate of profit is an expresssion of technological development within the system.
I also studied with David Harvey at CUNY and Rick Wolf at the Brecht forum. They definitely influenced my thinking but I have biggger disagreements with them. Neither of Harvey nor Wolf defend Marx’s theory of the falling rate of profit.
I’m going to try to develop that stuff but within the analysis of concrete conditions. I think having theoretical debates at this point is of limited value and probably of limited interest… The number of people who reallly want to suss out the minutae of volume 3 of Das Kapital is probaby not a significant number!
