I agree with you that Trump has bumbled his way through, appearing to try to fake his way through the Presidency. However, do not underestimate the coherency of his message.

Trump was, and remains a demagogue, who quite coherently campaigned on a foundation of saying bad things about people his supporters don’t like. The people that were the targets of his appeals to hate were the “3Ms” — Mexican, Muslims and the Media.

Trump continues to all to coherently target the 3Ms, and those who voted for him are continuing to feast on his demagogic appeal prejudice and suspicion that he so successfully served during his campaign.
