Trump’s Campaign Promise To Make the World Respect Us Again vs. Reality.
Foreign Magazine Covers Show Contempt For What Our President Is Doing To America.
On the campaign trail it was like a mantra. Trump pledged again and again that if elected “the world is going to respect us again, believe me.” He even tweeted that the world will respect America again.
So let’s see how that is working out. Foreign magazine covers have not reflected the respect the President promised. Perhaps the most biting comes from Der Spiegel which clearly played off the notorious picture Kathy Griffin severed head picture that so inflamed the President and damaged Griffin’s career.

The Der Spiegel cover story article states Trump’s “Presidency raises questions about the resilience of American democracy and its institutions.”
Stern Magazine does not let the President off any easier.

The translation for that cover is equally biting. “Sein Kampf” is clearly a play off Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” which means “my struggle.” “Sein” substitutes “his” for “my.” The cover translates to:
“His struggle! Neonazis, Ku-Klux-Klan, racism: How Donald Trump fuels the hate in America.”
Respected British magazine The Economist features Trump using a KKK hood as an improvised megaphone.

The cover article blasts Trump for not respecting the office and being concerned only with “honouring himself and taking credit for his supposed achievements.”
The foreign covers are not necessarily incredibly original. They resemble covers from recent American magazines regarding Trump, though they arguable take it a step further.

The President is the face of America to the world. More of his supporters need to think about how the world views this country under his leadership. The face is not a pleasant one, and America’s respect in the world is declining because of it. Ultimately, that is a reflection on all of us. How he looks to the world is how we look.
