I agree with you that the large smart lockers aren’t a sustainable solution from startups, neither is on demand delivery (ship to me, I’ll deliver when you are home). What I was referring to is a process where if a delivery is missed by a courier, it’s not returned to their central depot but rather placed in an automated collection depot (located by bus stops like in European cities) that another service (Uber, Lyft) can pick up and deliver when the recipient is at home, if they decide not to pick it themselves.
On the rural and suburban front, what do you think about smart individual mailboxes as density doesn’t allow for larger central ones? With the dramatic rise in package theft, the doorstep might no longer be a reliable option.
