I think the “eschatological freakdom” of Christianity goes right back to the beginning.

OOOOOO apocalyptic wormholes. Called it — autobiograhpy title. What I find interesting about the Puritans is that while the End Times have always been a part of the Christian theology, they gave themselves a starring role. In the early church, Paul wrote to the churches and was like “Jesus is coming back soon so get your life right” whereas Puritans were like “We will bring Jesus back when we get earth right”… which sets them up nicely for getting into everyone else’s business.
