A couple years ago, I started an intense summer fling with a guy I’d known for a while. This was, of course, right before he was scheduled to fly to southeast Asia for a summer backpacking trip with friends. The first month he was gone, we texted for hours a day, to the point where he asked if I wanted to fly over and meet him for a week in Singapore, on the last leg of his trip. He said he’d cover the hotel and I found an insanely cheap flight, so I went! It was awesome, and not all that expensive, considering (my short term savings more than covered it). Neither of us expected it to work out, as he was planning on moving at the end of the summer anyway, but no regrets.
