To be fair the racism existed on both sides in the Civil war. While I am a fan of Lincoln in general, he did not believe Blacks were the equal of whites. This is reflected in his plan for freeing the slaves,?which involved sending them back to Africa.

Tax policy also led to the war. Northern merchants insisted on tariffs for cheaper imported English goods, which burdened the southern economy.

Lincoln did use the issue of slavery to win the war, and I do believe he was morally in the right to do so. However I also believe slavery would have died out in another generation or two. Lee himself was not in favor of slavery when the War started.
