There is a flawed undercurrent to this article: it assumes no fluidity between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie in terms of interests and actions. In the present NBA climate, certain members of the former can safely assume eventual escalation into (a tier of) the latter, which necessarily influences their approach.
More relevant to the salary cut phenomenon is the boom-or-bust “Ringzzz” culture that, on one hand, subsumes a player’s worth to his ring count and hollow media-driven (and owner/fan co-opted) narratives that position the players as chiefly responsible to carry that burden, on the other.
