Creativity

The start of pieces I have made.
I like Im sure many other artists will say, have been asked the following questions “What inspired you or made you think of doing this?” The simple answer is “I wanted to”. But that doesnt really add the flavor, the impetus for the creation. That simple answer doesnt provide the minutia of why this way and not some other way.
For me sometimes a piece is born in a dream. Other times it is born in the process and experimentation. The key for me is to be opened minded, accepting of how the medium responds to my actions, and not being too attached to my initial concept.
I hear comments about the undertones, the intention, the meaning… yes, I am sure those are there. I have degrees in counseling, psychology and social work, I am aware of these. I also know for a fact each person’s individual perception is projected upon everything they witness; so my intention in the end matters little when the observer projects meaning onto the piece. I am ok with that, if my art inspires a person to see something or feel something, I am happy they had a reaction of some sort.

The pictures of the completed pieces. Where they what you expected? Creation of art for me, is just as surprising. I am never certain how things will be until the piece is finished. some pieces Ihave put away for weeks or months because I didnt know where to go with it and I just knew it wasnt finished. I wont force the art, I enjoy it guiding me.
