The conversation, especially with my dad was intimidating because I knew how much he valued his education.

But I after talking to my dad, I realized one thing — we need to understand the perspective of our friends. I knew their concerns beforehand so I made some I showed them my plans, my startup, my job offers just to show them that I can be successful and most importantly happy without a college degree.

During that time, I was working on a personal project of mine that I was extremely passionate about and my parents saw my dedication to create value over going to college. They gave me a chance. But this is what I told them:

College will always be there for me. I can always come back even if I’m 22 or 42. But I wouldn’t always be able to chase my dreams, at least not with all the responsibilities and obligations later in life. This is my chance to take risks and try something new. Because I know that if I don’t take on this chance, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life.

They understood how much this phase of my life valued to me and that I couldn’t just let it go by me by sitting in a class I don’t want to be in.

If you go in knowing what your parents will ask and back it up, at least they’ll understand you but you also need to give them time to think it through. Hope this helps!
