I know someone who is modeling local economies as ecosystem inputs, energy sinks, seeing what creates an optimal state of resilience and regeneration, etc. for Capital Institute. Managing by numbers, or measurement needs to interface in a meaningful way with qualitative metrics over time. It’s not either or but the numbers have to measure the right things; positive system feedback signals borrowed from ecosystem management in a watershed for instance.
