People who have lived where there are cold winters would always chuckle when I would say that I dreamed of living in an area where it snows heavily. They would always tell me that I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Nothing was going to keep me from achieving my dreams, so when I got a chance to move to Canada after marrying a citizen of that country, I was absolutely elated. I loved the way the snow looked in my yard, but my husband had to pay someone to come do snow removal in Toronto because it was just too much for us to do.
Both my husband and I are very active when it comes to the outdoors. I walk a lot, and he is a runner. We even ride our bikes together long distances. If we have a chance to bike to a nearby restaurant for dinner instead of driving, we both do it. I have always thought of myself to be a pretty fit person. But sometimes, events happen in life that make you question what you think of yourself.
The very first time that it snowed after my move to Toronto, I found myself looking through our windows often to look at the winter wonderland outside. But after a few days of nothing but beautiful snow, it began looking horribly gray and dingy. Not only that, we needed the walkways and yard cleared. I offered to do it because I thought that I would be able to handle it rather easily. It even seemed like something that I figured would be fun. My husband told me that I would find that shoveling away all the now-ugly snow would be a lot harder than it looked. He was right. It was nicer to be able to just hire someone to do it for us.
