If you are looking to improve your on-page SEO, using Cora SEO software is a great place to start. It was created to provide a data driven way to do SEO. Essentially, it backward engineers search results by looking at which factors correlate with the page rankings for a particular keyword. It does this by checking 540 ranking factors based around the first 100 results for your selected search term. With this data, Cora will provide you with a roadmap of what you need to change on your page to have a better chance of ranking.
Features of Cora SEO
Beyond providing the content averages for things that are currently ranking well for your particular keyword, like word count, Cora offers a wide variety of features including:
- Integration with Ahrefs to analyze backlinks
- LSI keyword recommendations
While this is great and all, the software is relatively expensive. At $250 per month, we believe the software may not be worth it and simply is out of the budget of some SEOs. That is why we went looking for cheaper or free Cora SEO alternatives. Here are the alternative options we found:
1. Backward Engineer the Search Results on Your Own
While this method is not perfect, it will yield decent results if you do it properly. All you need to do is search for your target keyword and calculate the content average of the main on-page signals including:
- Keyword density
- Word count
- Number of images
- Number of videos
- Number of keywords in the title tag
- Number of keywords in the heading tags
- Number of keywords in the paragraph tags
Once you have manually calculated these averages, we recommend that you make your content match them and, if possible, exceed the word count by a little bit. As you can imagine, calculating these stats takes time and energy, so one might be tempted to have a tool do it for them. This leads us to option 2…
2. Buy a Cora Audit
If you are not analyzing a ton of keywords, it is probably cheaper for you to purchase individual keyword audits rather than pay monthly for the Cora SEO tool. If you are looking to this, you can purchase a service like this one to provide the audit for you. They will run the audit with their subscription and simply export an excel sheet for you to use.
3. Use an Alternative Software
When looking for software alternatives to Cora, we were surprised to see that there weren’t any on the market. That is why we created a Cora SEO free alternative! All you need to do is put in your keyword and your URL, just like you’d do with Cora, and our tool will provide you with changes that you can make to your content to match the rankings on the first page.
Keep in mind that on-page SEO tools, like our’s and Cora’s, do not consider off-page factors, content quality, or the actual authority of the domain. If you are looking to truly understand what it takes to rank your site on the first page of Google, you will also need to take those factors into consideration. You can use a tool like SEMrush to check the off-page difficulty of a particular keyword, check the overall content quality by reading some of the articles on the first page, and check the average domain authority and page authority of the first page by using MozBar. Once you know all of these factors as well as implement the on-page content averages that are currently ranking, you’ll have a good shot of getting on the first page.
