I am Musophobic (the fear of rodents).
Growing up as a teenager in the village, I battled with the idea of hunting and smoking bush rats out of their holes; seeing rats jump around the house, simply because the sight of a dead one was enough to end my day no matter how glorious it was. Hence, I allowed them be, provided they don't jump on my body.
I can understand that this weakness limits me, and separates me from the class of men like David Ogbonna - my younger brother - who is the last and bravest of the four of us(all boys). If courage can be determined by this, then I now understand why God had to bypass the other sons of Jesse to settle for a particular David that could wine and dine with the sheep as king.
It is very sad to note that I am not alone in this class of humans as the recent revelation from the presidential spokesperson that President Muhammadu Buhari and I share in this commonality. Howbeit, the good news for people like me is that if people like President Buhari can make it, then whatever makes us consider my brother David as courageous is not the only criteria that can make one a king or president.
Can somebody tell President Buhari that he is not alone in this as many of us struggle with the painful reality that our houses, 'offices', and lives are tormented by these evil creatures called rodents daily.
NB: If you want to punish me any day tell me to kill a rat in a room, you can as well have my dinner in exchange for that punitive measure.
