Whilst your project itself looks interesting, specifically the direct micropayments to artists and scope for different types of media an artist can share, i don’t see it as the silver bullet for a perceived death of the record sleeve. Here’s why:
You don’t mention the resurgent sales of vinyl, which surely can be taken as an indication that people are more and more drawn to the idea of music as a cultural artifact that can be held and appreciated away from a computer screen.
You also neglect to mention radio, a medium by its very nature dislocates an artist's visual presence with their music. A medium that essentially hasn’t changed since its inception. If any thing streaming services like Spotify are the first genuine evolution in this particular format of music consumption.
Also, you don’t explore the way most people consume music on a daily basis. I don’t know about anyone else, but I listen to most of my music in any given day passively in front of a computer at work. My productivity would take a nosedive if I attempted to consume visuals along with the music itself. Not to mention the potential for injury when going for a run!
And speaking personally, after a day in front of a screen the last thing I want to do is go home and stare at another computer screen. I’d rather mix some records. :)
Ultimately, it seems that this piece is conflating a collection of issues, some of which I’m not convinced need solving and putting forward your own project as an answer. Which I should add I’m not objecting to. However it does make it problematic when you consider what was not mentioned in relation to how people consume music.
